Now is the time that most fields are being harvested and crops being sold and taken to
their distributors. We have several stands outside our little town. The above stand is always there each
fall selling their pumpkins and cornstalks etc. I was surprised when we went for a drive
yesterday, that no one was tending the stand. I guess he had to take a break..because I waited
and he never showed. The trees in the background have not yet begun to turn ,
but when they do..they will turn in about a weeks time..it’s amazing how fast they do it .
I just love the colors too. I found several stands alongside the road and the owners told me that
tomatoes are all but gone now and mostly corn too. Squash and pumpkins are plentiful.
Seems just yesterday we got our first tomatoes from those stands. My, the summer went fast!
The weather was glorious again, near 80 and very warm breezes.(today we are lucky to have 68)
It was all ahead of a front that will change us for the rest of the week. I figured what better
time to see the countryside. We ran across a lot of roadkill…mostly raccoons and some possums.
I guess the weather fooled them into thinking they could outrun the many cars out on the
roads.
I kept expecting the deer to come bouncing out of the trees onto the roads. I don’t mind the
deer, just DONT JUMP IN FRONT OF MY CAR!! Several very bad accidents in our family have made me
this way. It’s something I will have to work on to get over..but for now ,I take the freeways
most of the time to avoid the back roads where they congregate. In the next weeks I will be
including some photos I have taken of the fall foilage around my neck of the woods for you all
to see. I realize some never see the wonderful colors that we here in Michigan enjoy. I lived in
Ca. for over 20 years and some fall days I just ached for some of the fall colors..but alas, everything
was just brown. Palms and Euclyptus trees are no fall tree to enjoy.
I came home from my drive and found the neighbrs mowing their yards. I guess they heard about the
cold temps coming too. I proceded to join them in trying to make mine look half as good as theirs. A mole
or his whole family have made a network of hills everywhere and it makes it so
difficult to mow. I put what was supposed to do to kill the grubs and they still came back. I guess they just
love my yard or something cause no one else seems to have any trouble with them.
I finished as the
sun was beginning to hang low in the sky and the mosquitos tried to carry me off. The days grow shorter
and I know fall is here to stay. A good note though, I have not heard the geese flying over going south yet..
I guess there will be a while yet until winter.
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEEK AHEAD…
