THEY ARE BACCCk!!!

Standard

img218/4256/stink18dc1.gif       OH YES THEY ARE!!! Seems the neighbors have
been putting cat food out to catch a stray cat that has been around and
the lovely stinky skunks have been eating it!! They have seen or captured
7 skunks this past summer in their live trap. After the FIRST one I would
have never tried that again!! Seems the neighbor left his house to go get
a newspaper yesterday morning and came home to one sitting on his porch steps..I guess
waiting for his "kitty dinner"!! The whole neighborhood KNEW he was
there too! The neighbor had to back out of the driveway and walk slowly to
the front door so he could enter his house. Our house was saved being several
doors away but I can only imagine what their house smelled like. When we
called over there to see what was going on..we were shocked to find that
they have 1. had so many  and 2. have been  inadvertantly feeding
them.  No..they didn’t know CAT FOOD was calling them to their house.

The other neighbors garden is long gone for anything for the skunks to
eat..so I guess cat food was pretty tasty.  Mind you this is two blocks from
the downtown area and one block from the college campus! There is
heavy traffic through here and it is unusual to see one skunk much
less 7 of them this season. The other neighbors are afraid that these creatures
will seek alternate housing(if you know what I mean) once the weather changes
and the snow falls. I can only shudder to think!! I am sure watching my garage door and
sometimes go in there and close the door behind me. What if one were in
there already? OH LORD! I think I would panic or pass out!!! Does one know
what they really would do in that instance? I hope I NEVER find out!!
One lesson learned though..Don’t leave CAT FOOD  outside or you
might get a stinky visitor.                     img218/4256/stink18dc1.gif

  1. Some years ago, not far from our house there was major highway construction and this caused lots of skunks and other critters to seek a new home.  Our neighbor caught one in a live trap and didn’t know what to do next.  You or your readers probably don’t want to know the exact details, but lets just say live trap wasn’t quite the correct word.

They are scary animals, especially if you have other pets around.  Be careful!  Cindy

We did once have a skunk in the garage…but it  came out thank goodness on its own ..leaving nothing in the wind. Thank goodness. But they are stinky and who needs that. I don’t know about you but it was pretty chilly in the house this morning…I looked at the thermostat and it said 52..in here..I went out side thing it was actually warmer out there.I actually looked at the furnance put in a filter and got it ready to go…now I think its to early for that lolHave a good day love the fall colors here!!! Hugs Hope

  3. There is actually a spray you can buy to get rid of pests like skunks that is not harmful to the environment.  Go my my Allegro site and to the page that deals with care of the piano.  There is a section about getting rid of mice where I have the website of a place that sells this product.  It is an almost odorless spray containing the urine scent of a fox or coyote that will keep away any pests.  Skunks will avoid your place if you use this!  Not to mention any mice or other rodents.  I’ve never used it myself, but it sounds like a good alternative to trapping the pesky things.  Good luck with them.
