OPEN THE WINDOWS…..NO KIDDING !!  

Preventing the spread of disease in a hospital may be as simple as opening a window, an international team of researchers reported on Monday.The low-tech solution could help prevent the spread of airborne infections such as tuberculosis — and ironically, old-fashioned hospitals with high ceilings  and big windows may offer the best design for this, they reported.

They worked better than modern “negative pressure”  rooms, with expensive design aimed at pumping out infected  air, the researchers report in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS Medicine. “Opening windows and doors maximizes natural ventilation so that the risk of airborne contagion is much lower than with costly, maintenance-requiring

 mechanical ventilation systems,” wrote Rod Escombe of Imperial College London and colleagues in their report.”

Windows in most hospitals are made to NOTopen at all!! How could they ever “air” it out?How many old hospitals are left in this country? Who knows? I have heard though about this.I have visited several times nursing homes who have their windows and doors open to help germs escape.  My grandparents both were strong believers in opening all the doors and windows if someone in the house got sick to LET OUT THE GERMS!! Replacing the bad air was common to them. Maybe it works… maybe it doesn’t ..It cannot hurt to just try it out sometime to see if it helps. I would hate to know what kind of  germs lay dormant in hospitals these days just waiting to attack!It is a simple way to try and prevent the spread of infection.

This boy was certainly courageous and never gave up!! I still believe that if self defense was taught in schools, that fewer children would be abducted.

DEATH BY LAPTOP ???

YUBA CITY, Calif. — A man who authorities say appeared to be driving while using his laptop computer died Monday when his  vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Hummer.After the crash, California Highway Patrol officers found the victim’s  computer still running and plugged into the cigarette lighter of his 1991 Honda Accord.The screen itself shattered from the impact, so we can’t be sureif he was working on it or not, but we think from the way it was found that hemight have been working,” CHP spokesman Sgt. John Pettigrew said. “It’s a straight road right there, and it doesn’t look like he fell asleep or anything else.”

OKAY.. since when does a laptop need to be on and open on the seat next to the driver unless it is being used for something? It was plugged in. and running.. wonder why???

AMERICAN IDOL  THE MEN..step up their game…  

The parts of the show I saw were pretty good tonight. The men seemed tobe doing better this week. The judges told them to try harder this weekto bring their “best game”. They did that..several of the men havevery distinct styles of their own. There only has to be 6 men chosen..you can almost tell who will be going and who is good enough to go ahead to the finals already. I thought Blake Lewis and Sundance Head were very good! Tonight the women take the stage and they have proven they are a force to be reckoned with!

BOB WOODRUFF

I saw Bob on OPRAH yesterday and he sure has had a ”miracle” recovery..in that, he can speak clearly and precisely and has most of his memory restored. He had an hour long special on ABC that was really fascinating talking about his ordeal and the long road back to getting his life back on track. Makes you stop and think that so many of our troops are coming home injured every single day..thousands of young and older soldiers and they all have their battles to fight now to recover in some way. This WAR has put such a burden on the families and the soldiers lives. It is a horrible thing for sure. My prayers to all of them.

LARRY BIRKHEAD SEES THE BABY

Larry Birkhead was given a special time to visit with Anna Nicole’s Baby. The more I hear this story,the more I am convinced that he really is the father of that child.  Baby pictures of Larry shown were so similar to the baby Dannielynn it was eery. An old time friend came out and said that ANNA was suffering from LUPUS.. NOW I wonder what the toxicology reports will say about that??? Could explain a lot of her behavior that the public viewed as being drugged or drunk. Time will tell!

WHAT’S GOING ON??

 US SPENDS LESS TIME IN CLASSROOMS

 

You wont believe this one.. or maybe you will…

   The only country who spends less time

in the classroom is MEXICO.. all other countries spend more

than the 6.5 hours that children spend in the USA. The average is

889 and the USA is at average 789. Kids go to school the same

time they did years ago around here in my little burg. I think

the snow days and sick days and holidays have been extended

more than they were in my school days. We did not have so many

legal "holidays" and not so much break time over Christmas. I am

sure this also has something to do with money.. money they would have

to spend to keep the power on, and pay the teachers for extra salaries.

We wonder why other countries have such smart kids sometimes..I guess

they are just in school more hours than we are here maybe. Who knows!

STAMPS GOING UP!

PRICE HIKE WILL BE 3 CENTS…

 

In case you missed it..

 

YES the price will

be going up again to 41 cents each!

If this keeps going who the heck will be able

to send a card or mail a bill??  Progress is coming

along so that most of our bills will be paid

electronically in the future. AFTER  9/11 all kinds

of changes were made because planes were not flying and

the mail could not be transported. It caused so

many problems that they just had to make

the changes so that it would be easier to

do transactions. Since then most companies

would prefer you do your business that way.

If most places go that way..why will we even need

so many stamps? Is technology making way for the

extinction of mail as we know it?? I mean with

E-mail and all the other devices..chances are the

U.S. Postal Service is going to be in deep trouble pretty

soon. 

 

I rarely recieve letters..real letters..in the mail anymore.

I recieve junk mailings and bills… that’s all. All other

correspondence is via e-mail or phone. I noticed that

this year for the first time..we received only a handful

of Christmas cards. Snail mail is just that SNAIL’S Pace.

Everyone is in the hurry up mode today and we have no

patience to wait two or three days for a letter to arrive.

 

US Postage can go up and up..just like everything else does,

but I am wondering if it will someday be a lost thing like

BETA  tapes, Black and White TV’s,  and a Walkman.

We have to buy gas for our cars to go places.. we don’t

HAVE to always send that birthday card or letter anymore.

I can remember when postcards were only 4 cents each.

1963..I received my first postcard in the mail from

a friend who went on vacation with her family to

Florida. I was thrilled to get mail..those days of

being thrilled to get mail are long gone now.. With

computers now..kids can talk to their relatives and

friends immediately and no need to send a card.

I wonder where all that money is going when we

get an increase???

 

 There is talk of a "FOREVER"

stamp..  Postal customers will be able to avoid future

 price increases on first-class postage if the U.S.

 Postal Service adopts a "forever stamp" that got

 the backing today of a government commission.

The forever stamp, which was proposed last year,

 would sell for the first-class rate at the time of purchase

and would remain valid even if prices continue to rise.

Hmmm I bet this works.. I would be willling to buy them

anything to keep the costs down.

 

Whichever way you look at it.. the mail will probably

go on forever.. it will get delivered daily like it is supposed to

but just how much of it will be important mail..we can only guess.

Handbags..Out of Control..

Changing ones theme is so simple here.. I added so many new headers in the past few days.. it is mind boggling what you can come up with. I am loving the complete freedom one has here at wordpress!!!

OUT OF CONTROL!!!

If I wanted to carry a suitcase I would!

  

 I recently went into several stores looking

for winter gloves on sale. The pickens were

slim in most stores here already. What I did

see were the most outrageously large purses

I have seen in a long time.Ones with buckles and

large straps. My shoulders ached just looking at

them. I find the larger the purse you have, the more

you tend to put in it. Instead of going big in my

more mature years.. I have went smaller. I had

some real eye opening moments in there staring

at what seemed like briefcase size bags. WHAT

the heck is wrong with these designers? Am I

the only one who thinks that these are way

way out of line? The prices went large right along with

them too. Geez.. I could almost pay my electric

or phone bill with the prices they charge. I know

the high end purses are expensive.. hundreds of

dollars.. but we are talking..Kohl’s Target, KMart,

Sears, JCPenney.. these stores have higher prices

than they used to. I am glad the summer purses are

coming into the stores now. They are larger than

I like, but at least they are lighter weight.

I think the MEN who make the trends in this

line of women’s accessories should have to

carry the darn thing over their shoulder, and then

maybe they would change their minds!!!!

Some people like to carry their whole house in

their handbag.. I, for one, think that is so dumb!

If you lose it or it gets stolen…well you are doomed!

Larger ones are easier to keep track of..but please…

I need more choices in the smaller styles!!!

I shall keep looking for the right one.. when I find it

I will know right away.. You can bet it will be a small

one!!!! I am sure going to have fun looking around though.

I tend to keep a purse for a long time unless the strap

breaks or some zipper sticks or gets broken. It has been

awhile since I got a summer bag..so I will be looking

for it soon. I just hope it doesn’t take too long.. our summer

may not last that long here!!!

Oscar WINS!!!

I did pretty good…

 

I picked most of the winners..I was happy AL Gore’s

documentary won.. and the theme song that went with

it. Now there is a good lesson for us all to learn in

that movie. I thought there for one minute that

maybe there might be an announcement of

his running for office..His sense of humor showed

up and was a welcome sight.

 

I was happy for Jennifer Hudson.. and the song

that Celine Dion sang was wonderful. I was right

about Helen Mirren and about the Happy Feet movie..

wrong about the best picture.. and right about

Forrest Whittaker..I  loved the dream

girls trio of songs they did.Too bad the movie

was not nominated itself. Ellen did a pretty good

job.. she’s no Billy Crystal..but fun anyway. It ran

long and it always does.. what else is new..

Looks like our little end of the state got the best part

of the winter weather despite the ice we got. We missed

out on the heavy snow and power outages that the rest

of the state got. It rained..yes I said rained..on and off some

during the day..so weird to see it rain on top of about

1/4 inch of ice covering everything. I hold best thoughts

and prayers for those who suffered any losses of family

and property in the southern states from those winter

tornadoes that struck.  .. I am off to bed.. it’s been a long

day………(I shall dream of George again probably.. I have seen

too much of him in the past few days to not have sweet dreams. )
