Attempting to add a photo here from the other day
when I was taking pictures of the great cloud displays
we had. My popup blockers (2) were causing trouble
and I could not load anything onto my space. I
finally gave up and wrote for help. I got prompt
help and I am now able to enter pictures on here
directly. ABOUT TIME!!
I took a trip out of the city to the country to see
how the vegetable markets were coming along.
They are pitiful. It has been so dry here that ,nothing
that is not irrigated, is growing at all. Here it is the middle
of JULY and no tomatoes, or anything. The corn is
high in some places but not nearly what it should be.
This means that we will be getting all the vegetable late
in the season, if at all. Not usual for us to still be getting
tomatoes when the frost comes to kill them off. So
Sad. I hope we get some rain soon to help them along.
I miss tomatoes from the markets. The grocery stores
have them..but they never taste the same.

DAISIES!!

Daisies are a part of my family from way way back. My great
grandmother loved them and had many big plantings of them
in her yard in Tennessee. My grandmother had many in her
yard too in Ca. They were easy to grow in the heat there and
always thrived no matter how hot or dry it got . My sister used daisies
as the flower theme in her wedding..on the dress, the cake,
she carried them and they were on the invitations.
In finding pictures of daisies I found that there are so many
different types of daisies.. The one in the background here is called
the SHASTA…They are the white daisy which came from England.
The anglo-saxons called it the "daes eage" or "days eye" because it opened
and closed with the sun. African daisies are the ones that come
in colors of pink, purple, blue, yellow, even some red. Some have
darker centers and some yellow centers. The origin is South Africa.
I have seen the daisies in stores and wondered if they were all
in the same family with chrysanthemums. No, they appear similar
but are not.
Did you know that they also can be eaten?  King Henry VIII ate dishes
of daisies to relieve himself from his stomach-ulcer pain; during this
time it was also believed that drinking crushed daisies steeped in wine,
in small doses over 15 days, would cure insanity. Well if it cured or
made him sicker we will never know.
  Daisies indicate innocence, purity,
and gentleness on behalf of both the giver and the receiver.

I think they are nice flowers to look at and pick and not too
fragrant and that suits me fine!

Another great day here in Michigan.. I sure hope you are getting some great
weather for a change too.. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
