I AM NOT READY..

I am certainly not ready for what is coming.

ANY OF IT….

I have no gas in the snowblower and the

shovels are still stored away.The weatherman says

snow and ice coming.. I haven’t been to the

store for supplies. If you live here in Michigan

you go to the grocery store when you hear that

a storm is coming in the wintertime. You might

be out of power for days.. you might be stranded

so everyone and their uncle is in the stores getting

ready for it. I neglected to say, it being the first of

the month and the month being DECEMBER and there

are only 24 days left to Christmas does not help.

People rushing and the traffic is less than to be

desired. STRESSSS is not at a fever pitch yet.. but it is

coming. I hope to be well away from the crowds

this year. I was last year and I loved it!! One stop shopping

and I am good to go. I haven’t put up a tree yet..don’t know

if we will or wont but the wreath is on the door and lit

and welcoming winter. Have you ever heard of buying the same

kind of thing for everyone? Each person gets his or her

version of it.. like candles, CD’s,books, or photo albums. I have done this

in the past and it worked well. Buying in multiples works if

you find what will suit the person and be unique too.

One of my favorite places here is called BIG LOTS..

Brand names and lower prices. Boy I am in HEAVEN in

that store. I always find something different and in my

favorite price range..It makes shopping FUN!!

 

Whatever you are looking for this weekend..be it a tree

or presents or just shopping in general I hope you find what

you need and want in record time.

CHANGES..so many CHANGES..

 

Talk about changes.. yesterday I was going to make a

casserole and then it turned into a beef soup. Mom

misses her pot pies made with Bisquick that we used to

have to use up the roast beef. I know that stuff is

high in salt so I will try to make it some other way.

The low fat kind is still too salty so I am sure

I can come up with something . It just takes time.

Impatience is key in the elderly. They want it

NOW..  Soup seemed like the easiest home-made

thing you could do. Just leave out the salt. It was

yummy. 

Home-made is the best I am thinking . GO back to

basics and do as they did in the old days.. MINUS

the BACON DRIPPINGS and the LARD and the

real BUTTER… and CREAM.. (sigh ) I am sure

we will get used to it sooner or later.

 

 

Eggs were 2.00 a dozen here yesterday. and milk

was 2.77 on sale to 3.29!! GAS running everywhere from

3.16 to 3.26!!…I bought some of those artifical

eggs (equivalent to 8 ) for 1.69.. now they are

higher..per egg… but you can freeze it and keep them

much longer. Mom likes to make banana bread

and eat large pieces.

I figured I could buy the eggs and substitute

splenda sugar and she could make some. She

just could not eat it like she used to. Well she decided

NO.. she didn’t want to make anymore.. "I would be too

tempted." She is learning it is the changes we must

make. Things to help us out. I was tickled to know

she is trying at least to help herself along.

She is still talking back to the TV however, whenever she

see those commercials for candy and sweets.

 

Glad she hasn’t been in the stores where they

are though.. they are everywhere.

 

It is cold and windy here no snow yet… that is yet to

come to our little Burg…Hope you are well and warm

A NEW DIET..

 

Well mom is not too happy these days. Just before  a big

holiday season.. “COOKIE TIME” she is having to give up

her cookies and fruitcake and pies etc. All that salt from

the HAM we have over New Years is OUT!! She is very

depressed over that too.  Some things just are.. as they are..

so we move on. Now my days are filled with “what can I

have?”. …so out come the diet books and the new recipes

to replace the old ones we love so much. Looking over the

internet there are so many it is mind boggling. Last

night I actually dreamt about recipes I had looked at

so many.  I will be looking into the NO SALT substitute and

the Smart Balance products. Mom is nothing without

her margarine on toast and every little bit helps.

Is it possible to make a cookie from some of those

products and have it taste OKAY?? Does anyone

know??   How in the world does one make a

dish that actually tastes good?

The other day I was in a store and they had a new

product called RONZONI . It’s pasta with more

fiber and calcium. Something where you never KNOW

the difference.. Now THAT will work for me! They

need more of this in the stores!!

I finally got some answers from the doctor’s office and

she can get her old meds as long as they are working for

her. The doctor was NOT HAPPY that we switched

back to the old meds..but when I stated the numbers..

well they don’t LIE!! Time will tell with new foods and

cutting out things and adding new.. hopefully we won’t have so

many problems..

Off to make a new cassarole with VEGGIES..
