TUESDAY ALREADY???

I can’t believe this week is going so fast.. It is tuesday already…

JUST HAVE to get my license renewed quick.. problem is finding

the time while the darn place is open. The hours are all over

the place. I guess the small towns are like that though.

We have glorious cool temps for the past two days and I

am loving it.  I went back to the K Mt and got the paint for the

porch. I tried to talk mom into the coat of polyurethane, but NO

She said it would be too slippery when it got wet. She is probably

right.  With the paint we already have it is pretty slippery when wet.

I placed some sand in the paint to help with that on the

portion of the porch people mostly walk on. WORKED

like a charm!! I have slipped my last time on there!! Should be nice

weather today to finish another coat and be finally DONE with it.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Heard on the news that ( as we know already) corn products are going to

go sky high. So will MILK! and just about everything else by fall. 

I got a gallon of gas today for 3.96 and was I happy!!! Makes one

wonder what is in the gasoline though to make them sell it so cheap.

The cars were lined up down the block.  All other stations were 4.13.

Topping off my tank the same as I did 2 weeks or so ago costs me

10$ less!!! I had to look twice at the bill!! Same amount of gallons

only cheaper price. Boy it sure makes a difference. We are now

driving 65 on freeway and 55 on the rural roads.

I think it does make a lot of difference.

SO LONG XP.. I read that article at msn home page about them no longer

selling XP on computers. I am not a fan of VISTA..but what do I know?

I DO KNOW that my old computer will be KAPUT and then I am out of business

WHEN  they no longer give us updated on the XP. I shall miss the internet more

than words can say. I guess I will have to start up a piggy bank savings account right

now for the new one.

OH WOE IS ME.. I went to 4 stores today looking for a stupid gallon of

PAINT!! No such luck.. DID you know that some stores like Wally WORLD

and Meijer do NOT carry EXTERIOR paint of ANY kind? Well that is what I

found out..the clerks told me.  I guess I should of just called on the phone

and asked and saved

the darn GAS it took to run 16 miles to another city and then all over

looking for it.  Mom is still insisting she wants another coat on the

porch  floor, so we keep looking for another gallon of the stuff.

If I can’t find it then good enough.. ONE WILL HAVE TO DO!!

I said I was done and I thought I was until SHE decided that it just

didn’t look like it would “last that long, since it is not OIL BASE PAINT.”

Some people are just stuck in their ways I guess. Rolling it on is not

hard, just finding the right weather and low humidity is the hard part.

I may get a break in the next few days  I F  I can find some. The local places

here in this burg sell Sherman products and other brands.

 

I was able to get gas at 4.09 and that is cheap compared to some places.

Fruit and vegetables are all over the place here but the prices.. 25 cents EACH

for an ear of corn at one place and 12 for 2.00 at another. WOW cantelopes

are 2.00 each in one place and 1.38 in another. You sure have to watch the

ads and make sure you don’t get ripped off. A watermelon cost 3.49 and it was

one of the round kind not that large. You know I bought the cantelopes for

1.38.. OH YEAH and it was delicious!!

Spoke to my aunt in Ca. on the phone when we got back home. Things are

so rough there. The heat is unbearable and the smoke even worse.

They are living in the valley near Fresno and they are getting smoke

from fires in the hills and the ones from the other parts of the state.

It does seem to linger there for long periods of time. She said it was over

100 there today. Hard to believe when we had cool 70′s here. I have

decided I am happy with our rains.

Here is a picture of SIS’s new cat.. it is still there and comes when she calls

him at least that is better than the last one she got.

Good size paws, she says it will be a big cat.. it is only 6 months old now. Loves being

petted and played with.  I couldn’t get too close and had to zoom in on these

photos.. ME + CAT= no way .. no how!!    Good thing I am a dog person!

 

In her driveway the lilies have went crazy and they are in full bloom.. I think late

for this year, because of the crazy weather we had.

Her tomato plants look great, that is if the cat and the critters leave them alone.

Mine look so sad compared to hers. I guess a hot house porch isn’t a great idea after

all. It does get really hot in there and even though they are not in full sun all the time,

they just have not done all that well.  Oh well I had to give it shot anyway.

SATURDAY SURPRISE…

Saturday seemed like SUNDAY all day long here. Very hot and humid

and pretty dull. Found out that I could actually SEE a Nascar race..even though

it was only a rookie type race.  What a treat.. and what a surprise.

I will take that since I don’t get to see the

"real " races again until the last 10 of the year. SO watching the race I thought

wouldn’t it be nice if TONY WON. and he did!!.. SO my favorite Tony Stewart won

the race and it was one of the first ones he has won in a long time. He

won’t make the big bucks like the regular races, but it is a win.. I was so

happy for him and all his crew.  

 

Another surprise is that we were under watches all day long for thunderstorms

and they all were mostly all north  of us. We got a little shower despite the bad

dark clouds and that was all. The front came through about 6:30 or so and it got

nice and cool. NO humidity at all now. I love it.. the next two days are supposed to

be pretty nice here. We deserve a break so I can get a little more done around here.

The grass grows so fast you almost have to cut it twice a week now. My glories are up

at least 3 inches tall already.

 

July is just around the corner and so is the

FOURTH… WE don’t make plans here anymore since they always get messed up somehow.

This year we might get to go to a BBQ out of town.. we will see. So many people have

changed or canceled their plans due to gas problems. I bet there will be a lot less traffic

on the freeways. Speaking of freeways.. THEY might bring back the 55 MPH speed limit

here in the U.S.A.   I remember that back in the 70′s. It saved lives for sure. I already

have started to drive 65 so what the heck is another 10MPH??! I worry though about

the ones who really will not stay with the law and run the rest of us off the road.

So dangerous.. poor truckers will probably be put out of business too. They just cannot

catch a break.

 

What do you think of lowering the speed? Do you think it will help or hinder??

 

WIth Gas at near 5.00 in some places.. it will save us money and I guess we will just

have to give ourselves more time to get places if it comes into reality.

MELONS

Recently after I finished my painting, I just sat for a long time resting and then

remembered MELON!!  I have a cantelope!! I love those things!.. (well that

and watermelon.) We go way back. My grandfathers on both sides grew them.

Dad would find the largest watermelon in the field for us to have when we went on

those trips to Tennessee in the summer time, but I still loved the cantelopes.

 It wasn’t until my first trip to

Ca. in my childhood, that I found out that my grandfather there grew them too, as

well as "mushmelon".. (Well that is what he called them!) Gram would say

"Get out there and get me some LOPES for dinner!" and Grandpa would

answer…"You kids round up some mushmelons for your Gramma."

I had never ever seen those in a garden so that was exciting and boy they did smell

good too. Being in the valley in Ca. we were in the prime area for melon

growing. I got to go to where they harvested and packed them for

shipping.. ALL KINDS. what a treat!  It amazes my sis when we go into

a store here now and I can tell her what the insides look like and what

the melons taste like.

  I think it is good that we are introduced to things

when we are small and that way we develop a taste for them when we

get older. I admit I hated artichokes when I first tried them. They seemed

so hard to prepare and you just didn’t get too much out of them. It sure

wasn’t hard to get used to when you tasted those juicy melons though.

I sure was shocked though to see a watermelon that was YELLOW inside

though. Now that was a real surprise!! They taste the same though.. no difference.

Melons here signify summer..it’s the only time you get them cheap in the stores and

Fourth Of July just isn’t the same without them.  A good fruit salad in summer cannot

be beat. Don’t leave me alone with the bowl though or the cantelopes might disappear.

We have been under watches almost all day long here. The northern part of the state

got much more severe weather than we did here though. I am grateful for that. It isn’t over

more is headed our way.  Gas here was 4.19 and scheduled to go higher next week.

Milk is anywhere from 2.99 to 3.79 a gallon.

 

If you were a fan of George Carlin.. watch NBC Saturday Night Live tonight, 11:30 E.S.T.

They are re-running the entire first episode of the program as a tribute to Carlin

who was the first host of the show. All the old regulars will be featured also.

I happen to think that those shows were so much funnier than todays shows are.

Most of those regulars went on to have famous careers.
