WEDNESDAY UPDATE…

 FROST  IS COMING!!

 

What happened to the service people who did their job and

did it alone without the customer assistance? Is this just me

or do they do this all over the county? In ALL the cases we have

had in recent days and weeks. I have been asked to hold this or

get this or carry that, find this or do you have that? I am not

complaining a lot, just wondering if maybe the one man

jobs are not being totally done by the ONE MAN any more.

Mom picked up on this when the man who came awhile back

and looked into our garage door opener. Without me assisting

him.. welll his job would have been a lot longer. WAS I SUPPOSED

to do that? Hold this light, get this screwdriver etc.. I mean I know

the lighting problems we have in our home are not the best,

but do ALL service personnel do this when there is a person

who looks able enough? I DON’T OFFER.. THEY ASK ME!!

 

The only people who came here in the past 2 years who never

ask me to do a thing were the cable guys and YES there were

TWO of them. That could be why.

 

Mom is not liking all the strangers in the house..

they might carry the flu bug. We are very careful to spray

and clean after each person leaves. No need to

take any chances. Yesterday, the news stated that a perfectly

healthy 13 yr old died of the swine flu after about 4-5 days

with it. I cannot imagine the family’s shock. What in the world

must the people who have other underlying illnesses think now?

Today I am cleaning out

furnace pipes with my dry vac and the service guy will be coming to

see how it  goes this year. I will NOT offer ANY assistance and

see if I am asked to do things this time too.  I will wear my mask and

dread the dust. This time of year always makes my allergies and

asthma rear it’s ugly head. Last night was cold but I was toasty!

Who needs a furnace? LoL  We have portable ones.

It will get down to freezing tonight here they say.. you heard that

right.. FREEZING or Hard Frost… so I will

trim up my tomato plants and take off all the ones that look

like they would ripen. I sure will miss my FRESH tomatoes

this winter.

Thoughts and prayers go out to those in the Tsunami zone in

Samoa. One minute there is a quake and the next you are under

water. That to me is just so tragic and scary.

If Michigan had a large enough quake out in the lake.. would all the lake water spill

over onto land? Someone on the news asked that question also yesterday.

The answer was YES.. I really am glad we are living far enough away

from the lakeshore. It’s a scary thought.

What next? I mean it is enough to make you crazy. One thing

after another. I am glad though that things break down before

winter. Winter around here makes things a lot more difficult.

This time it is our old phone line. This sounds like a rant, but

it is just the facts. I replaced the phone thinking it was the old

phone we had. That worked for awhile and then the popping

and such started again. Then it stopped. I bought a cordless

phone which works great. No distortion on that.. so it led me

to believe that it WAS THE LINE itself. Sure enough.. this morning

it was DEAD!!  Made several calls and finally got a guy out of

town to come and check it over. it is long past due.. 40 some

years worth!

 

Well hope that does it for now.. if one more thing goes on

the fritz I will sit right down and laugh because when it rains

it pours around here. 

Cold this morning, time to get the furnace serviced.

DID I mention when it rains… etc?? Nahhhhh it just wouldn’t

or would it.. ?????

UPDATE  Tuesday night….

The service guy said "the guy who put this in was dumb..he put

the thing in upside down and all this dirt and dust is in there."

I told him it had been in there at least 25 years or more. He said

the workings looked "ancient" .. ahh yes. this house is very old

and some of it was original to the house. He replaced it all.

wires and box and was on his way. I liked the friendly guy

and the promptness of service. He will get work from my

reccomendations that is for sure.

Gas dropped again to 2.35 and stations were busy. Town prepares

for the Corn festival this weekend and praying for NO RAIN..sounds

like it will be a chilly one and that means low turnout. It sure

was loads of fun last year. Might have to dig out my winter

coat to take on the events though.

CATCHING UP …

Rain and storms blew through here last night and so

this machine has been unplugged for safety sake.

Quite the lightning display and now the winds are fierce

and COLD. We will be lucky to have 60′s for highs this week.

 I guess OCTOBER will come in like the time of year it

really is. Days are short and seem to be over in the blink

of an eye. Never enough hours to get things done. Can

you say NOT READY.. yes I sure can.

Gas went down here over the weekend to 2.39 and today I heard,

on the news, that crude oil is down so heating oil will be lower this

winter than last year. BEST NEWS that we could get when so many

are struggling. Sunday I made a trip to the TSC.. (that is the

Tractor Supply Company) here in town. They had a one day sale

on infrared electric furnace heaters similar to those you see

on tv. The ones that heat the whole room and never get hot

to the touch. I bought one because our old house is so drafty with

13 foot ceilings, and mom is so cold already I fear for what

is to come this winter. I have to say .. YES IT WORKS!!

In no time at all the whole large room was very warm and

OUR FURNACE IS NOT ON! Talk about savings!! I know with

this unit our gas bills will be a lot less this winter. EXACTLY

what I was hoping for. The next challenge will be when it

gets below freezing and snowing to see how it does.

Will let you know. IF the store near you advertises they

are selling them there.. go see about them and listen and

ask questions for yourself. ALL I can say is  IT WORKS!!

The man said they had sold 70 the day before and nearly that

yesterday here in town. They brought in a whole truck load from

the factory. I told the manager of the store that this was a great

help to people who are struggling and thanked him for getting

them to come.

Watched one of my fav shows last night Desperate Housewives.

They sure had some shockers.  Left my comments about

that at the group site though. Glad the new season has started now on tv,

I was so tired of re-runs on every single show. The new FLASHFOWARD

looks good too on ABC. This show is a real thinker.. leaves you wondering

after you watch it.

I feel like the mad hatter today.. I’m Late.. I’m late.. got tons to do

SATURDAY VIEWS..& MORE

Yesterday was a day of many errands and dodging rainy skies.

Very windy too. Saturday looks to be even cloudier and colder.

Used the new camera yesterday while out and at least learned

a few more things about it. I did manage to finally figure out

how to put the date and time on a picture. Now what would MY

pictures be without that? LOL Still a learning process.

 Here is one I took of the last sunflowers of the summer bowing their

 

heads to fall that has come.

 This one is better if you click it. I see I still have a long

way to go..I entered the wrong date..but the sky is

really neat!

Had trouble at hotmail again yesterday. I would not open

no matter what I did. You know what would a month be

without some kind of e- mail screw up?

Guess what? Mom changed her mind about the cake and wanted COOKIES

instead. She said they would last longer.. she is right about that.

So I made her Sugar cookies, she only eats one or two a day.
