PEPSI COMMERCIAL–TRUTH OR FICTION??

Standard

There is a commercial for Pepsi that is all over the internet. It is very funny..and looks entirely REAL. Some are stating that is was not a real video but a made up one.Not the real Jeff Gordon driving the car. Whether made up or not, it is very entertaining. Is the purpose of a commercial to sell the product?..YES..is the purpose to entertain while selling the product?.. YES.. I think this commercial does both very well.  What do you think??  It’s worth watching and seeing for yourself. The reaction of the salesman is priceless and if faked he really deserves credit for being an excellent actor.

DREAMING…

Standard

I certainly am dreaming a lot of the time now days. Some good and some bad. Last night a show called PERSON TO PERSON came on CBS back in 1953. It’s a kinda re-make of an old show years ago. They take important people and have them show them around their homes. GUESS who was first.. GEORGE!!.. MY GEORGE!!..I have spoke of him here in my blog before, but in case you missed it..CLOONEY is the name!   Oh you know I was right there glued to the screen. Seeing inside his Studio City home was a dream of mine. We even saw inside his refrigerator! No mention of his girlfriend either, which I thought was just fine!  He got very quiet when speaking of his late aunt Rosemary..the whole family misses her a lot. I was amazed at the photos and collectibles he has everywhere in that home. In the video link above you can see some of his home. For those of us who always wondered..that few minutes was just great..and led me to some good dreams.

Sometimes life puts us right where we should be at the time. We wonder why, but GOD has his timing and we go where we are supposed to be. I have been dreaming of the old times with our other home and Mom and times that were only months ago.It seems to have passed so quickly and then again so slowly.  So much has happened in that period of months. I have been what seems like on a journey of sorts, trying to see what is out there in the big world. Someone asked me about what my perfect home would be and what I would like to see in it. I had to stop and think about it.If I won the lottery and or got rich overnight I would certainly be ready to make some choices.  I like certain things a lot, others I hate..so I guess I do have some ideas in my head. I love the water..the ocean , a brook, or a  pond..any of those will do. I need some air and space and some green. So maybe this might fill the bill nicely to start

ahh..love that scenery!!. I guess it is just so calming to me. I would love ..no rain or storms..just calm and sunny almost all the time. Yeah that won’t always happen, but this is a dream home. I guess my style is coastal with tropical overtones. Winter here in Michigan makes one seek out a nice warm place to be. This suits me fine!

IT’S A BEANIE THING!

Standard

WHAT now seems like a lifetime ago, people got up at all hours and stood in line for something called BEANIE BABIES. It was all the rage. I can say I liked them, I can also say I collected some but not like others in my family did.I can close my eyes and still see both my nieces sitting playing and oohing and ahhing over their latest purchase. PEACE Bears were really my favorite, all those swirly colors..no two were exactly alike. Ahhhh so cute!!  We traveled hither and dither to places to see what was for sale and who had what old item to sell. They had shows set up in conference rooms at motels  and in malls and school gyms. Gas was cheap and money was not a problem and investing in something that you thought might be worth more in the future sounded like a good idea. Remember pet rocks and Cabbage Patch dolls? Seems the only real money-making idea that is still around is Barbie and Ken and even they are not as popular as they used to be due to computers and XBoxes now days.

As I went through our household things there they set…the entire collection that mom was so excited to buy. I searched on Ebay and put ads out in Craigslist to try to get someone to buy the whole collection. I don’t like even THINKING about what money Mom put into them. Somehow I wished she had invested in Gold jewelry, now THAT would really be something.  Someone said.. DONATE them to the local hospitals for kids to play with while they stay there. What a great idea. There are so many of them though. When I called they said fine but they don’t want  hundreds of them.. Yes… you read that right…HUNDREDS!! All in all we have at least 4 or 5 boxes of them including the sets from McDonald’s.

YIKES..everything runs in cycles and if you wait long enough it comes around again in a big way. Can’t wait on this though as I am short on space and have no time to wait. So these Beanies..(which the bears were my favorites) may just have to sit and wait for a new home in the local thrift store. Life is tough sometimes..even for a stuffed animal.

A DAY AT THE FAIR..

Standard

Spent some time outdoors yesterday and I wasn’t working!

The day was breezy and warm and NOT humid. There were
plenty of trees to sit under and watch the world go by.
Some of the oldest and largest OAKS in the county or state
are found here. They were just magestic.. where were we?
THE COUNTY FAIR grounds! The oldest fair in Michigan. It was SENIOR DAY,,
(yeah,,I qualified Confused smile  )
It had been a long time since visiting there, I sure was shocked at the

prices of just a carmel apple or elephant ear. Shows how long I have been away from
there I guess. The Smoke House above is on wheels and travels. Yummmy smells coming

from there and great ribs. Big crowds at the judging arenas and kids with their entries.

The ducks were swimming and the band playing tunes all afternoon. Yes there were rides, but they were not
running. DARN! Too early in the day! I love the tilt a whirl.. it was always my favorite.
AS I left the grounds
I looked back and saw the sun shining through those large
trees. It was just the perfect day!!

SATURDAY VIEWS…

Standard
We hadn’t been on a real Saturday fun day in a long
time. Just taking a ride in the countryside. I wanted to
see if the veggie stand was open this year or not. I was
shocked to see it all closed up and no signs up at all.
This was the first time at the end of July it hasn’t been
open. The field was full of produce but maybe it was no
longer profitable to stay open in summer. Maybe we will
check back later and see. We ended up taking a ride to
my Dad’s old friend’s ice cream parlor. Ice cream is NOT
on mom’s diet but she can have a  little. After getting
a treat we got back on the road and started back home.
We saw this sign for a market and decided to check it
out. I really wanted some tomatoes that tasted like
real home grown ones. (blotted out the name for reasons
that will be explained below)

The place looked nice enough.. I mean from the outside
it looked like a nice roadside market. INSIDE was another
story altogether.
It was as large as a BARN.. all wooden shelving. Aisles of merchandise
that was mostly out of date. One room had produce but the rest of the
entire barn was full of discounted items from all sorts of places.
Those boxes in the aisle are FULL of candy.. all candy bars and
etc open to pick and chose from. Boxes of cereal and etc stacked
to the ceiling. So, did I see any ahhhh BUGS.. well… yeah.. and
I saw several CATS wandering around too. Live mouse catchers
I assume. This place had four stories. You literally could climb to
the LOFT area and that is where the paper products were stored.
I was very careful where I put my hands that was for sure. I was looking
at some garbage bags when something started to itch. I looked and
low and behold I had a mosquito bite on my arm. Yes this was a pretty
open barn I would say. Some of the windows had screens, Other doors
were wide open to the breeze. They had fans going but I sure would NOT
want to be in that LOFT on a 90 degree day.
I did see this area of metal shelves under the stairway. Crackers
of every name imaginable. Sis and I were just amazed. Most
of this stuff was surplus and some really damaged. If you could find
something with a more recent date on it, it cost more than the
discount stores price. I kept wondering to myself, how they get away
with the fire, and safety and health codes in this place. Well I
didn’t buy much in there just looked around. I found out when I checked
out that this was a place that a lot of AMISH people frequented.
I thought they were pretty self-sufficient, guess not. I saw several horse
and buggies there and they were shopping as we were.
Did I find the tomatoes? YES.. they were delicious.. would I buy more..
yes.. they were okay. Would I buy .. Eggs, meat, cheese etc there..
NO. The coolers were really not all that safe looking and Sis was shocked
to see some items that looked semi frozen. The fruit was okay, but the
vegetables were shriveled from the heat.
Would we turn the place in
to the health dept or authorites.. hardly. They have advertised for years.
Nobody has hassled them to the point of closing. Do they rotate their
stock.. NO. Some items had dates as far back as 2006 on them,
We never had to go there in the past because the other market was open. This place
is 10 miles from our house, out in the countryside. You really have to make
your trip count. If I ever go again, I will make sure of the dates on things I
buy and take my hand gel, mosquito repellent, and kitty treats for the mousers. Smile
