SAD NEWS

Standard

The sun is out and the skies are blue…there is no snow today but it is a cold February day here. The sun is so bright on the snow that you must wear sunglasses or be unable to see much when you get back indoors. The schools are still closed and many roads are still impassable. While all this winter weather was going on we had to make some difficult decisions. For those of you who are not on Facebook and haven’t been following there, Mom was just not able to endure any more dialysis treatments and they were stopped as of Tuesday.

The  blessings involved are that mom is not aware of how very sick she is or that her days here with us will soon end. She is not in pain and won’t be in pain. She will slowly drift away from us into a coma state and leave peacefully. I am so grateful for that. It has been a long road this past 14 months, full of hospitalizations, and procedures and many hours sitting getting treatments. WHY would she want to go ahead with these at her age because… “I am not ready to go yet!” she told us very emphatically. It was her wish to continue and so she did.  I made sure that whatever she wanted, that made her happiest that we would do just that. She spent many hours going through circle the words books because “It keeps my mind busy.” We spent time outdoors and in the car traveling the roads and seeing the sights. We ate the forbidden foods like fried chicken and ice cream and had fun knowing we were breaking the rules of her strict diet. She spent time with her two grandchildren and loved every minute of it. I was so glad that she was alert and able to do that.

Having three surgeries in one month last month took its toll on her. She was just unable to bounce back the way she had done in months past. So now she will be with us only a very short time longer.

I AM SO GRATEFUL for all the support and caring thoughts and prayers of all the blog community.. It is just so wonderful to know that we both have so many people who care so much..

WORDS CANNOT SAY HOW MUCH WE THANK YOU!!

ONE DAY AT A TIME…

Standard

MOM said Change would be good.. I agreed.. getting home in the daylight instead of pitch black dark would be wonderful. That was before we found out the bad news. Seems another surgery is necessary for Mom and she isn’t happy with it. What is the alternative? You have no choice..it must be done or give up and decide to go into hospice and prepare for the end. PERIOD.. What an extremely hard decision to make, I cannot think of a harder one. I truly don’t know what I would do in that situation either. Mom has been so well lately that many have told me she has been very lucky to stay so healthy and strong.

MOM  is not one to give up.. she is a fighter and wants to live to her nineties like her mother and her mother before her. She is strong-willed and nothing can stop her shy of illness she cannot control. Most are amazed that she has endured the year that she has. Sis and I are totally behind whatever decision she makes, when she makes it. She has  some time yet to decide. Thankfully, she does not remember a whole lot of what she went through the last time. Drugs mostly kept her in a fog and the pain at bay. IF not for the scar she would not know she had anything done. God is good. So here we sit, wondering what is to come.

THE reason I am blogging about it all is because I am becoming really busy and have not been around as much as I used to. I am not sending e mails, chatting, or visiting everyone like I used to. So many things going on all at once it’s hard to keep up. Just know I will be around when I can and will try to let you all know what is up and what happens. It looks like our Thanksgiving this year will be just as hectic as last year. Yes, Mom was in tendercare and was pretty sick last year at this same time. One whole year has passed. My how time flies. Hoping to have dinner at home with all Mom’s favorites this year, we will see.

It is cold here in the mornings now, we have a threat of snow flurries lingering in the next few days. I dread the winter time as it is so hard to get around in. One day at a time is what we live in now…one day at a time.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

CHASING WIFI….

Standard

For two days  now I have been chasing the Wifi.. both at home and on the road. Believe it or not I have just entered into my third spot. I settled into my little desk area at the library and all of a sudden UH OH.. their system went on the blink. Good thing they announced it or I would have thought my laptop on the fritz.

They had the same problem last Friday.. boy that place sure clears out in a hurry once NO ONE can get on line. So I moved on to another spot and no longer is their service FREE, you have to  make a purchase to get the code. So I settled for another spot at the local Hospital parking lot. Here I pick up limited connection, but at least I can get someplace.

Today is sunny here and in the 50′s.. had a very cool morning. I noticed that the price of gas had come down over the weekend to 2.82..big relief as it was nearly 3.00 last week. Visited the post office and bought stamps.. this old gal will never buy anything but the “FOREVER” stamps.. let me tell ya that was a genius idea. Why pay more just because you had some left over..

We had an appt to meet with the social worker in mom’s case and she has promised to try to move mom’s schedule so that we can get home before dark. I sure hope it is soon. Then I met with the clinical nurse in charge to go over all mom’s meds. GOOD NEWS..she can now stop two more of her meds. This means that she is well enough to not need them in her system at all. I questioned whether that would be okay with her DOCTOR in charge and she said she would make it SO. Hmm makes you wonder just who the heck is really running the ship! When one says one thing and another something else I QUESTION it!!  I feel for those who don’t understand things it must be very  very confusing to them.  I see my laptop  battery is getting low again.. will have to invest in an adapter soon so I can charge it in the car. I just hope I don’t have to do much more chasing wifi in the future, gas what it is.. well.. makes a person make hard decisions. Just glad the weather is okay and it is warm inside the car.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!

P.S. We sure are having a great time with our Facebook group page. Remember you can’t find the group, if you have been invited, UNLESS your are on the HOME page ..not your profile page.

Sleeping on a CLOUD…

Standard

The cloud is really a pillow. Yes I have so many kinds and have tried so many I can’t even count them anymore. This one is microbead filled. Sis got two back in 2008 and never mentioned them to me. When I started getting this kinked up back she brought over her  Tony Little Microbead pillow. I slept on it two nights and BOY WHAT A DIFFERENCE!  I have long been a supporter of those buckwheat pillows and still love them, but this microbead thing.. well it has more softness..like a “CLOUD”.

Now I couldn’t afford the price that those fancy pillows Sis had so I went on a search for one similar. Did I find one? YES I DID. It took a day or so of on-line and calling around places but I finally got one. Seems the company that makes my buckwheat pillows ALSO makes the microbead ones now. It isn’t as large as the one Sis has but BABY it DOES the job!! I love to endorse products that really DO what they advertise they will do. This one does. It isn’t hot to sleep on and it does cradle whatever part you lie on it. My back and neck do feel much better using it.  My CLOUD works for me. Provides the support where I need it. I recommend you give it a shot if you have any sort of back problem or neck problem.

P.S. After I purchased mine..QVC shopping channel had them on sale at a great price, including the larger one. I wish I had waited and bought them there. I love mine and will try to buy  a larger one too.

SUNDAY UPDATE..

Standard

I recently taped a show on ABC which involved the Chef Jamie Oliver from England. He is on a real quest to make food served in schools more healthy. It took me days to get time to see this show but I really wanted to. It is called FOOD REVOLUTION ..look for it!! The amount of work and hoops he had to jump through, both with the administration and the staff and even the federal government and their guidelines would make you dizzy. Boy was I shocked at how little the children of the schools knew. They had NO CONCEPT of what any kind of vegetable was. We are talking kids who are at least 4 and 5 years old. Did any of the children know what they were eating? Did any of them know how to use a knife and fork? All the schools provided was SPOONS. Shocking.. it sure was for me. Some education begins at home and that means that home life for these children does NOT consist of any kind of learning about basic use of table utensils. Kids only care about what tastes good and what is fast and simple to eat. I am sure their eyes were openend and maybe.. if this show begins to catch on the whole nation could jump on the band wagon. When I went to school.. (blah blah blah).. white milk only..you got a whole bottle to yourself. No flavors involved. I did chores at home and boy we KNEW what a simple thing like corn was and potatoes and even tomatoes. We snapped beans and helped make jam and jelly and can peaches. Today it is all the simple canned foods mostly and most of us are living in the hurry up generation. Time for change I truly believe it. We have children now who are at high risk for all kinds of problem illnesses.. diabetes, and more. I bet if you watch just one show you will be sold on the idea of making a change. There are many petitions floating about the internet wanting people to sign up and have some change come to their schools too. This next week he tackles the HIGH SCHOOL kids. The kids who have already learned they can eat junk and get away with it. I predict real chaos. Just my opinion anyway.. on what I thought of the show. Funny it takes a guy from ENGLAND to come to the USA to make changes for the better for U.S kids. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Cool and damp here today.. making a pot of soup and maybe make some banana bread later. Next week promises to be glorious here with 70 degrees in the forecast.. OH HAPPY DAY.. I am putting my snowblower away.. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY!! e I have had trying. I gave up three times yesterday. Not a happy camper for sure. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I recently taped a show on ABC which involved the Chef Jamie Oliver from England. He is on a real quest to make food served in schools more healthy.
