TRAVEL NIGHTMARE…

Standard

TRAVELERS NIGHTMARES SOON OVER…
MOST people traveling over this holiday time are having
quite the time of it. Funny how the US Government would
pass a LAW so that NO PERSON has to sit in a plane longer
than 3 hours and it go into effect A F T E R the holidays when
people are NOT traveling as much. The recent snowstorms
had passengers sitting in planes up to 6 hours and more!!
Terrible conditions and no hope of getting back to a terminal.
Hmmm Thinking seems to me that SOMEONE someplace could
have made that law go through much faster than 120 days.!!
I mean if some Senators or Congressmen were themselves
sitting in those planes going nowhere…maybe just maybe..
things might have went a lot faster!! Wink
More snow and bad weather coming again which may cause a lot
of trouble Christmas eve would make this driver think twice about
flying anywhere and more like trying GROUND transportation
choices. (That is just me though! Wink)

Talk about slippery..underneath our streets here was ICE.. plenty of
it ..took two days to get where I wasn’t sliding out of the driveway.
Normally I wouldn’t worry about it.. but with MOM elsewhere and I having
to go visit her "house" it’s a strain. Word of freezing rain on Christmas
Eve or day really sounds like a nightmare to me. Glad I won’t be out in
it. Mom’s treatment will be on Saturday this week and I will be sweating
it out unil they arrive back to her "house" safe and sound. Sure not used to
all the action in the winter weather. Nurses at the treatment say mom is fine
now until she has to go back to her "house" in the weather. A tense time
for an 83 year old, especially seeing cars in ditches and swerving all over
the roads. Sheesh!Sad Winter  BAH HUMBUG!!

Spent most of yesterday in the kitchen baking and visiting mom. Sis got her shot
but I am waiting for a week or so. Attended the bake sale at mom’s "house"
we bought her several cookies. All proceeds went to the needs of the residents
of the tendercare. Her diet is so bland that a cookie or two is very welcomed!
She came back from her treatment with gifts from the center. They had had a
party afterwards and she ate pigs in a blanket and had CAKE! She was so excited.
Her granddaughter showed up with her husband for a visit and we had
another party in her room. I called later and the Rn told me she was "KONKED
OUT" in her room by 5 PM. What a day she had! Smile They put her to bed early.
Well that’s up to date with things here. I have a massive job ahead of cleaning
up the house and delivering items to people here and there.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY TODAY!!  STAY SAFE,WARM AND WELL!!!

SLOW GOING..

Standard
THINGS are slow going here and I guess other places
even worse after getting all that snow that fell over
the weekend. First day of winter really came early. Smile
Yesterday I snowblowed the driveway only to find there
was a lot of ice under that snow. I decided to let some
of the snow stay as it was easier to manage it that way.
Sis slid out into the street on Friday night so..guess that
was a good decision. Street crews will not clean much
snow away on the side streets in this town on the weekends.
They don’t have money for the overtime. They only plow
and salt the major arteries we found out.

Sunday I spent trying to make goodies again to give away.
I use the word TRYING because I got delayed many times.
I searched for a treat to make and ended up with macaroons

and boy was I glad it was simple and fast. I added the
red and green jimmies for the Christmas touch. They
came out good and the recipe made a lot. After I learned
I was making them WAY too big that is. The walnut size
ones were over the top!! The recipe doesn’t tell a person that
you should bake them on tin foil sprayed either but I found that
the best way.
Here is the recipe.. You Cant’t Mess It Up.. as there are only
three ingredients……
MACAROONS
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Ingredients:
•16 ounces shredded coconut
•1 can (14-15 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
•2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Preparation:
Directions for coconut macaroons
Mix all ingredients together. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto generously greased baking sheets.
 (USE TIN FOIL SPRAYED)
Bake at 350° for 8 minutes. Cool coconut macaroons slightly; remove to rack.
Makes about 4 to 5 dozen coconut macaroons
WATCH IT.. those bags of coconut come at 14oz and not 16oz so make sure
you have enough.. if they are too sticky they will not turn out good.
People have drizzled melted chocolate over them after
they are done. I made some for Sis and she said they tasted like
a MOUNDS bar. YUM!
Visited mom later in the day and we watched a movie and saw
many deer moving through the fields near there. Trying to find
eats in the snow…it was slow going for them too.

Off today to make some deliveries and get my H1N1 shot and do some
much needed chores that have been neglected. Whew.. there never seems
to be enough time….
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

SNOWY SATURDAY..

Standard
Granted.. it’s nothing like what is going on in
the eastern side of the USA right now, but talk about
slippery and cold. The wind is blowing the snow so
much that it looks foggy out. I found myself out among
the other shoppers today and I must say everyone was
shopping by the cartful. The woman in front if me spent
over $400. and I was sure glad it was her and not ME!! Smile
Took this pic of the decorations covered in snow. This town
has the only garland around that is REAL evergreen. I have
seen it last way into March before it begins to fade because
of the cold temps. Not only does it look great.. it smells divine
while you are shopping the local streets.

Tomorrow I will be baking some for more plates I have to deliver this
next week. When I looked at my list I realized I didn’t have nearly what
I was going to need so back to the kitchen I go. Mom commented that she
was glad she wasn’t home to be tempted to eat them all. I have brought
her a few samples but they frown on that where she is. Once in a great while, I think, is plain
okay!!

HOPE THAT YOUR WEEKEND IS SAFE AND HAPPY!!

FRIDAY UPDATE

glitter-graphics.com

I’ve been trying to get back to this blog for days. Every time I get
about half way through it freezes up on me and won’t PUBLISH..Baring teeth
This is my third attempt… so we will see…Confused
Been busy making plates of goodies to take to the doctors and nurses
who have helped mom out over the last month. Sis and I found
some cute jingle bells that look like NURSES at the TRGT store
and so we will be giving them out too. I know mom can be a handful
at times so I really do appreciate all they do for her.

We sat in her room last night, with the lights off, looking at the
optic tree, Four deer walked through the large yard area
near the building. It was almost dark, cold and lightly snowing. Talk about
a moment. Now I wished I had video taped it all. When the lights
are on in the rooms, the deer will not come too close because they
obviously can see you in the room. Ours being off.. they came closer.
It was a picture postcard moment for sure. I was glad they all got across the
road safely. The deer crossing is so close to town, many do not make it.
There seems to be a family of deer, but we have seen at
least a dozen at one time come across this area.
Mom and I love watching for them
in the early evening.

Last weekend to get the last minute shopping done. I will be far away
from the crowds. I planned to get all my errands done early. Am planning
on cooking some for Christmas dinner too. We will see how far I get on
that though. Will be spending most all day with Mom away from home.
Glad we have a crockpot.. they sure have come in handy the past weeks.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!!

WHAT HAPPENED????

Standard

So so far behind here..I just can’t seem to catch up but I will try…

(WORDPRESS HAS GIVEN ME FITS LATELY.. CANNOT ACCESS

IT WHEN I WANT TO ..ugh!!!!)

I did a search on the internet for an optic angel and boy
was I shocked. SO MANY!! Narrowed it down to T**GT
and called them. They promptly told me they had only
ONE left  that they could not hold for me because
it was on sale. Sis and I took off for the store 20 min
away. I saw the picture on the internet and it looked
really nice.. 15 inches tall..but getting to the store and plugging it in
it exceeded my expectations. This is it lit up.

(click for better view)
The optics make it just glow. Mom will really
enjoy this. I also bought myself a Christmas tree!  It’s
tiny but cute with it’s optic display also. So this old
house WILL have a tree allbeit pretty small! I really
like how optics work. They remain cool to the touch and
just look so amazing. I found the stores not too crowded on
Monday and shopping was easy. Gas went to 2.55 a gallon
from 2.49 a few days ago. I found milk on sale for 1.75 a gallon
and the stores are loaded with fruit and some of it is pretty
high priced. Grapes were 2.49 a LB!!
Pineapples looked good.. it must be the season in Hawaii right
now. YUM! Bought some Ham on sale for the holidays so
Sis and I will have some for New year’s.
It was a pretty good day for shopping here. Foggy in
the morning and misty in the afternoon. It wasn’t too
cold but that is coming ..time to get ready for the
winter again now that almost all the snow is  almost
melted.

I had whole day off yesterday.. Oh I did work here at home sort
of. but I never left my house! I realized about noon time that
it was my first one since November. Wow, could that be right??Thinking
Yep. Sis visited mom after she came back from a treatment. She
had had a particularly hard day there. Was pretty confused and
gave the workers a hard time. Being tired and have a treatment
is pretty stressful on her. She never did calm down most all day
long. The RN told us to just leave her be and maybe she would
eventually. Works for me. I called later she was fine. Maybe
we are over-doing it with the visits but when we don’t go we hear
from her about it too. You just can’t win. Eye-rolling

 H1N1 Here I come!!
I called the local health department yesterday too. They told me that
ALL H1N1 SHOTS are FREE! Wow , I had no idea that was true. I heard
a rumor about it.. but don’t trust everything I hear. They have opened it to
all people now regardless of age etc. ONE hangup.. only ONE day a week
so far. Naturally.. the place was packed. I decided to try again next week
maybe go earlier and see if I could get one. Wish me luck!!

Today another trip out of town with mom in the wheelchair van. She thinks of
those fellas as her personal chaffeuers now. I told her not to get too used to
it because eventually she will need to be able to ride in the car again. We have had
many drivers lately and every one of them very good with her. Sis and I have had
certificates  made for them so they will know how appreciative we are .Smile
