IT’S SO HARD… . I quit bread.. something I love.. I mean L O V E…WHY?It’s not a gluten thing I  just don’t need those carbs..I quit sandwiches, I quit cornbread with butter, toast, hamburgers, subs,

OH MYYYyyy it’s tough… I mean it. I try to not think about it.. I mean HOT biscuits with butter or honey or gravy.. ACKkkkkk   I heard Oprah say.. I LOVE BREAD.. well I feel her pain. Especially when you don’t have it any more. You think maybe I will sneak just a roll or just a slice.. NOooo that leads to my weakness..can’t do it. I do have a few slices of bread in the freezer in case someone comes and wants a sandwich but NOPE not eating it. It has helped me for sure to cut this out.

I avoid places where I can smell it baking.. Subway and that fresh bread smell at the grocery bakery. It’s like a real killer… BINGE.. nope I have been happy not to do that.. SO FAR
They do say though, if you cut one thing out of your diet you will crave something else..
Winter will come soon and then it will be

I smiled the biggest  watching a neighbor teach his daughter how to ride a small two-wheeler. The bike never had training wheels and a small boy neighbor could ride it easily. She could not. So dad got his chance to run around holding the back of the bike and running along beside her. They did all this on the cement or paved street, smart dad. I remember falling on that street. OUCH…oh how I wish I had a video of that moment. There is no feeling in the world like the wind rushing through your hair as you ride as fast as you can and feel like you have wings for the first time. Wife came out and filmed a lot of her riding attempts. She just had to keep peddling. She tried another part of the complex that was flatter. MUCH better results. In less than two hours she was riding like a pro. BIG smile on her face. Neighbors came outside and applauded her efforts. I yelled..”Good JOB..DAD too!” I swear his face lit up like a Christmas tree all twinkly. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon at the end of September 2014. I had to think, I hope she remembers where and when she was when she learned, I remember where and how but not WHEN.  I hope her mom NEVER loses that video. A whole new world is ahead of her. Today she went to school, no doubt, with stories of her success. Can’t wait to see if she still rides well after school.. Stay tuned.

OH DEAR Blog Readers….the smells from my kitchen this morning brought tears to my eyes. I used my oven to bake my mother’s recipe for BANANA BREAD.. OH how the whole place smells like home and MOM making  it over and over again. She loved it so. She never needed the recipe almost up to the day she left. She made it so many times it was in her memory bank.  ALWAYS the end piece with lots of butter on it, that was her favorite. HOT HOT out of the oven would make her just ooooh and ahhhh.  Making it this time for my sister’s birthday. I omitted the pineapple this time and made it plain. Can you smell it??? YUMMM!! Haven’t had this in ages. Last time I made bread it was in the microwave for lack of an oven. Well it was edible, but just not the same. It cracked on top just like MOM made it. So happy it came out good. Recipe link is above.

DSCN6522Got to say the fall here in Michigan this past week has been spectacular. The leaves changing very quick but the temps have been mild and cool at night. NO rain, just does feel like October instead of September though. I fear the winter will be early this year again. Still looking for the wooly worm and his prediction but the black squirrels here are  busy storing nuts from the nearby trees like crazy. That alone is scary. I shudder thinking about last winter, but at least know this year there will be way way less shoveling for me here in my new place.

Following my last post..if you had ONLY ONE choice..could only have  O N E  ..would you choose cake or a cookie for your sweet treat? Remember you can’t choose candy.  Hands down, I would choose COOKIE..who needs a whole cake? Some choose their favorite cake like Devil’s food or Lemon but why not have Chocolate Chip FOREVER?? Nothing beats that taste I am thinking. I admit in the past I have even eaten raw cookie dough, but not anymore. Don’t exactly know WHY chocolate chip is sooo incredibly good to so many. Who invented them NESTLE? Why did they call them Toll house? HERE is what I found out..

Ruth Graves Wakefield graduated from the Framingham State Normal School Department of Household Arts in 1924. She worked as a dietitian and lectured on food, until, together with her husband she bought a tourist lodge named the Toll House Inn.

Ruth Wakefield prepared the recipes for the meals served to the guests at the Toll House Inn and gained local notoriety for her deserts. One of her favorite recipes was for Butter Drop Do cookies. The recipe called for the use of baker’s chocolate and one day Ruth found herself without the needed ingredient. She substituted a semi-sweet chocolate bar cut up into bits. However, unlike the baker’s chocolate the chopped up chocolate bar did not melt completely, the small pieces only softened.”  YUM!!

Three guesses who gave her the chocolate bar. YEP.. it was none other than Andrew Nestle. When the recipe became famous and the sale of his chocolate chips went up he struck a deal with Ruth to publish the recipe on the bag of his chocolate chips. Poor Ruth is not well known but Nestle is. At least the TOLL HOUSE name is still on every bag of chips and every product. The original recipe calls for NUTS but with so many allergies it is now optional.

The Toll House Inn burned down in 1984 and was not rebuilt, here is Ruth.. a very pretty lady. What did she get from her famous recipe? A lifetime supply of chocolate chips! Ruth passed away in 1977  at the age of 73.

3,2,1 CAKE

Wow I was sent this recipe in my e-mail from one of my long time blogging friends CHERYL. It is so simple and I will be trying it very soon.. This is pretty hard to mess up and I can see children even being able to use it too. If you are on a diet or just in a household of one or two people..this will help you greatly. THANKS CHERYL.

These individual little cakes are amazing
and ready to eat in one minute! They are perfect
for whenever you feel like a treat without all the fat
and calories that cake can have. Genius idea!

INGREDIENTS: 1 box Angel Food Cake Mix  (One step method)

1 box Cake Mix – Any Flavor

 2 Tbsp Water

 Makes 1 serving.

DIRECTIONS: In a ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together
and mix well.

For each individual cake serving, take
out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and mix it with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe
container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!

KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the ziploc bag
and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top
each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping
and/or some fresh fruit. Helpful Tips:

This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need
to remember is “3 tablespoons mix,
2 tablespoons water,
1 minute in the microwave!”

TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple,
lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes has
to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
The flavor possibilities are endless!

The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon
storage bag, one that ‘zip locks’ or ‘self-seals’, or a
container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to
blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple,
put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry.

Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be
Angel Food. The other can be any flavor.
The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the eggs whites
in it. So, if, anyone is allergic to egg whites, you can NOT
serve this recipe.

Last night the whole neighborhood was shaken after
dark, with sirens and fire trucks being called to a house
in our block. Seems a fire had started in the kitchen area.
There is nothing like sirens in the night to scare the dickens
out of you. The first thing I thought of was fireworks and how
the kids like to set off those large ones illegally. They fly through
the air and can start roof fires if they land in a dry area. Thinking smile
I guess it was put out by a garden hose and the firemen
and we were glad about that. Not sure what the damages are
but at least it was quickly extinguished.
Mom came home yesterday from the hospital, they cancelled
the test she went in for. Surgeon said it was NOT necessary
at this time. Sure was confusing for us. Mom was happy though
and glad to get home. Hope she never has to go back!
The day has been warm here and will be tomorrow too.
We could get into the 90’ really feels like summer!
Today I made strawberry pie. A really simple recipe that
I have I used every summer. Takes only minutes and
doesn’t heat up your kitchen. Sets up well and keeps good
in the fridge.  Try it you will love it!!

1 (9 inch) graham cracker pie shell
1 C. sugar
4 tbsp. cornstarch
1 C. cold water
Pinch of salt
One small box of DRY strawberry jello
Strawberries (at least a quart)

Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Stir into cold water.
Cook mixture until thick and clear, stirring constantly. Remove from
the stove.  While mixture is still hot
stir in  box of DRY Jello. Mix well.
Cool mixture some. Fill baked shell with well drained whole berries.
Pour mixture over berries and place in refrigerator. Will set up
pretty fast.
(Can use a real  baked pie crust if you prefer.)

The new General Dollar store opened in town

here a little bit early. I went inside and they were

still stocking shelves. I counted 8 people stocking

at the same time. I mentioned to one gal that they

really were a little bit anxious to open and she said..

” We don’t want to lose one dollar.”  Sheesh.. anyway“““

I looked around inside to see what they had that might

be different from our other dollar store. I noticed

that they had more FOOD items than ever. When the

only grocery store in town charges an arm and a leg

for some things, you try to find it elsewhere. Guess

they got the message.

I ran across this muffin mix that just made me

laugh. It is only sold in 18 states so far so chances are

you haven’t seen it. I am here to tell you.. buy it when

you do.

MAYBERRY’S FINEST That link will take you to it.

I tried their PEACH COBBLER muffins. OH

MY..I could just hear Andy Taylor saying

Yummmm Yummmm Aint Bea these are Deeee licous!!

I didn’t see any of the other brands they have at the

website, but I will be looking. It’s a cute concept and

the products are good. Can’t wait to try something

else they have.

All the Finale shows are happening now on Tv.

My picks are  EVAN on DWTS.. and LEE on American Idol..

I like the gal but I still think it will be a guy this year.

The Lost finale is on Sunday for the whole series and

after all this time I STILL don’t know what the heck is

going on. It has been one of the craziest series I have

ever watched. 24 will be wrapping up soon too and

Jack won’t be back. He went on a killing spree last

week and after all that, plus kidnapping a former

President of the USA.. He will be put away for good,

escape to never never land or shot on sight. It has been

pretty good this year, hate to see it go. They will make

a major motion picture later, but it just won’t be the

same.  LAW and ORDER has been cancelled. The

original one, not the spin offs. HEROES isn’t coming

back and so many other shows that have been on

for some time. Wondering what we will get to

suffer through next year that is even interesting to

watch. At least I still have NCIS!!!

Nearly 80 here today by afternoon and that

makes me happy. Been a long time coming.

Along with it comes the fires. We have two

burning up north right now. As of today 20 homes

have been destroyed. They just don’t get the

rain we do in our part of the state. Looks

like it could be a rocky Memorial day next

weekend for campers in the northern part

of our state this year.

Today I have to hassle with the pharmacy again. The

medicine they have for Mom costs 20$ more in one

town than the other. Sooo I have to have it resent

to the other store. Have to save wherever you can

no matter how much trouble it is. Endless paperwork

and keeping track. THANK GOD for folders and

Recently I received a late Christmas present. Yeah..
real late.Wink I got my new set of cookware from
QVC. Now I don’t usually shop on line or over
the television program, but this set of cookware
dishes really got to me. I figured I would try and see
and would SEND them back if they didn’t live up
to the hype about them
 I imagined that they advertised
things like easy clean up and even heating and they
were falsehoods .. Was I Wrong!! Surprised
The ceramic dishes were a breeze to clean up and
food Does NOT stick much at all. Some recipes I don’t even
spray the dish before I bake anymore. It’s so true.
Here is the big baking dish AFTER I made a pineapple
upside down cake.. notice not much inside it.
I never lost even one cherry! The lid to the dish became the
serving platter. I like that!! Light bulb
These dishes are called TEMP-TATIONS.. and they do all
they say they do. I give them a big StarStarStarStarStar
recommendation! They come in different designs and the
above link will take you to see what they have. I will add
a comment there soon too. Smile
P.S. Today was the first full day I had spent home without
leaving the house in about 2 months.. it sure felt good!!\
What better way than to bake up some dishes so that
I won’t have to cook when I am away. Wink Nice to have
great baking smells in the house again.
Has anyone encountered the changes at WA%$^T lately? I
recently went to our large store here and was shocked to see
NO MORE big displays in ANY of the aisles.. totally empty.
I wasn’t the only one who noticed it either. The store looked
so much larger without all that stock missing. Almost
like they were getting ready to close the
doors or something. Scary thought as this
store is always full of shoppers.
I also noticed they changed their credit
cards design and their logo. Hmm Thinking
Makes me wonder what the heck is going on?
It could have been in the news and I missed it..
I haven’t seen much due to mom’s new schedule.
4:30 AM comes mighty early and I for one will sure
be glad when the time changes and we don’t have
to travel in the dark anymore. I noticed today that it
was nearly 6:20 PM as the sun went down and we
gain 3 minutes of sunlight every day now.
Last year our area of Michigan HAD NO SNOW
in March or April.. Hope that happens this year too!
