IT’S OVER….

Standard

The election is over and AGAIN..despite the popular vote in our country the candidate who won the electoral votes was the winner. The people of America have spoken. Many of us are in a shocked state today. We wonder what is going to happen next?

If you think about it.. where else in the world could a person with NO political background at all win a race to become the President of the most powerful country in the world? I just hope and PRAY he surrounds himself with very knowledgeable people who can guide him through this new administration. Time to step it up and answer to all the promises that he made. I hope dissention  in this country will die down and we can all work to bring the country together. In the meantime I hope you join me and pray for UNITY in our country.

FINALLY!!!

After three or four different passwords I finally am able to get back to posting here Thanks to ANTHONY at WORDPRESS for all his help. I sure hope I can keep using this blog site for some time to come. I still am only using my Mozilla browser as my IE with my new Vista set up will not work no matter what I try. I give up on that!

PRESIDENTIAL TRIVIA  FACTS
WELL today is the historic day!! The day we, as a nation, have waited so long
for. A very historic day. I have seen every President take the oath since
1957 with Eisenhower in his second term. My dad thought that we kids
should pay attention to those ceremonies. We did and I am glad we did.
It was history in the making in our time. I stood at a big black and white
TV in my room and listened to Martin Luther King make his speech to a
multitude of people. I taped it on an old reel to reel tape recorder. I don’t
know what happened to the tape, but I knew at the time it was very special.
Yesterday I thought about that speech that I heard and how now many years
later his vision has come true. We as a nation are one UNITED!!
I will be glued to the tv watching it in wonder. Hoping for
the spirit of the day to continue for days, months, and years to come.

Pres. Bush and his folks had a sentimental last day in the White House, saying
goodbye to the staff and friends they have known very intimately for 8 whole
years. George Bush Sr. was there at the White House too, taking one last
look around before the big day. Many of the people there worked there when
he was president too.
On the other side of town Vice President Dick Cheney was helping move
boxes and sprained his back, so he will attend the ceremonies today in a
WHEELCHAIR.. I think that just may be a first for an outgoing vice president.
Michelle Obama, still hasn’t completely decided on what outfits she will
wear to the ceremonies. She knows that whatever she chooses will live
forever in the archives for the rest of time. A very historical day..everything
will be remembered.
Barack Obama, spent his last day before the swearing in, volunteering
using paint to brighten up a dorm room for homeless teens in the Washington
area. He stressed the need for Americans to do more volunteering.
George Washington was the first President to add  “SO HELP ME GOD”
to the oath and it has been used ever after.
Eight Presidents have been left-handed including Obama.
Barack Obama at 47 years old, is younger than any president
except Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy,Teddy Roosevelt and
Ulysses. S Grant.
Tallest President Abe Lincoln 6ft. 4 inches..next tallest  6ft. 1  Barack Obama.
Skinniest President  JAMES MADISON 100 lbs
next in line  BARACK OBAMA  180 lbs.
George Washington’s speech was only 135 words… the longest
one was 8,444 by William Henry Harrison and he died one month
later from a cold he caught that went into pneumonia.
The bible that George Washington used to be sworn in, was also
used by George W Bush and George HW Bush, Jimmy Carter ,Dwight
Eisenhower and Warren G . Harding.
Barack Obama will use the bible LINCOLN used in the first inauguration.
The platform used for the inauguration will be 10,000 square feet…. same size
as the one in 2005 which makes it the second largest in history.
Wherever you are at 12 noon or so today chances are you will hear or
see something that has to do with the ceremonies in Washington.
The whole world is watching and celebrating with us.
GOD BLESS THE U. S. A.
HAVE A MEMORABLE DAY!!

OBAMA PRESIDENT ELECT

Election day went well here in my town. People only waited about
an hour early in the morning. The rest of the day the voters came and
went. No long lines like the large cities. It was nice and easy. I expected
it to be hectic and a very long wait. It did not happen.

By 11PM the polls closed in the western states and so the race
was over. The people have spoken. We have a new president elect.
NOW WHAT??  I remember asking myself that awhile back too.
So much to do. So many problems. So overwhelming.
Change is good they say.. so maybe this will work out..
I sure hope so, we need it desperately. I predict that the stock
markets tomorrow will zoom and soar maybe at this news.
We will see.

Things on the homefront are shaky. Mom came down with some
bug and I am thinking I may have it too. Sleep comes hard as
you cough and cough all the time. If this continues we both will
be in to see a dr. before the end of the week. What a time to be sick.
The weather is warm and sunny. It was a record breaking 73 in some
places today in Michigan. I sat outside in the sun hoping to drive away
whatever germ or bug it was. Don’t know if that helped or harmed.
Gas prices rose here in the past few days. It is back to 2.19 now and
I hope that is not a sign of things to come.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEDNESDAY!!

MONDAY NEWS…

Standard

Got all the yard work done yesterday and then went  shopping
for some winter food supplies. I noticed that many prices had
risen just since the last time I had shopped there. Milk was 3.05 in
one place and 2.89 in another so there is quite a price range if
you look for it.  I think now,
more than ever, people are shopping for the bargains and the sales
items. I am all for the prices being reduced so we get more
for the dollar. Gas prices today were 2.71  I just still cannot
believe the drop. Makes me want to buy up containers and fill
them up.  I know, I know.. I wouldn’t really do it.. makes me
want to though.

In case you had not heard. COLIN POWELL came out and endorsed
Obama. I have no idea why he waited so long to let his choice be
known. I guess he was weighing all the pros and cons of each
candidate. I can only say that once upon a time I was All for
POWELL running for office and thought he would make a wonderful
President. It was a real disapointment when he declined running
for any policitcal office. Being a republican for many many years,
and serving in the BUSH sr. administration it was a surprise that
he endorse a democrat.

In my travels yesterday I ran across these two displays in a neighboring
city. They had a contest with scarecrow displays throughout the
city. These two really were very creative. I have no idea who won
the contest. Below was cute and not scary at all. Not the typical scarecrows.

RED, YELLOW, GREEN…

signal

Apparently both candidates are so anxious to get
their views across to the pubic,( in the debates)
that they don’t pay
attention at all to those lights that are there to help
keep things going . I just could see the
frustration in the moderator trying to keep them on
point and moving along. At one time, McCain told
Brokaw to just wave his arm. Long answers that sometimes
were not on the subject.. I cannot see a whole lot
of difference between this debate and the other one.
When ask a question, you really should answer it so
the people understand what it is your are saying.
I guess I just remember debates of the past that
were the back and forth kind that really made the
public sit back and take notice. When they were over
you really got a clear grasp of the candidate, and what
he stood for. You knew right away who won and who was
the best person for the job. My own opinion is that I am
just not “getting” that yet. Mark me as still confused.

Rainy here today.. but the weekend looks wonderful with high
70’s. I really need some of that to finish up my yard work.
The signal light on our car went out and the first place I thought
of was the same place I went before A Zone and the helpful
people who work there. He not only helped me in the store, but
outside showing me how to change the bulb. NOW it only took
5 minutes tops.. a garage anywhere would have charged me
labor for it. So I tried to pay him something and he wouldn’t take it.
I offered him cookies instead.. He perked up saying “chocolate chip
Please!” so guess I will be making cookies soon.  Service like that
gets me as a return customer for sure.

GAS is way down to 3.13 here and milk is still 3.49 -3.79..
I noticed that shelves are stocked for a canned good sale
and I will be getting my supplies for the winter months ahead.
You cannot beat 4/1.00 canned foods anywhere.
