Never can remember a September like the one our country had this year. I mean you name it, we had it. Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, Hurricanes,Tornadoes, Drought, threats of war,and suffering. Every time you turned on the computer or tv you would hear another disaster. So many hurricanes we lost track of the names of them.Fires were all over the western U.S.,and shamefully, all but forgotten when a HUGE hurricane hit Texas named HARVEY. Damage not seen like it since the Hurricane Katrina era. Then another Hurricane Irma and Florida was hit and a massive record breaking exodus north by millions. Again..we had not got back on our feet before MARIE hit many islands including our U.S. Island of Puerto Rico.Wiped out whole countries, and left everyone devastated. WHAT IS HAPPENING? Is the global warmth helping these disasters.WELL we can debate, no one controls the weather.Makes me wonder about what winter will bring, and what will happen next? Our local September ending breaking all records for heat. INTENSE heat that closed schools which had no air conditioning. Pretty much unheard of before. Whatever we get we will have to deal with and try to move on. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who are affected across the US and Puerto Rico and beyond. GOD help us all.
The Sept. 12 telethon will take place simultaneously in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, and will be aired by all the major networks for one hour, according to TMZ. The star-studded event is reportedly being organized by rapper Bun B and the same team behind the widely praised Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert.
Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton will reportedly host from Nashville on Sept. 12, while the Los Angeles portion will be hosted by Foxx and tentatively Hilary Duff, who was born in Houston.
Duff Instagrammed about Hurricane Harvey on Monday, writing, “This is beyond devastating. Truly heartbroken for my home town. #staystrong #deepintheheart.”
Kind of a struggle to keep remembering to even post here on this blog. Never ever thought it would get that way. Forget totally about it as I am always at Facebook. So easy to check in and out there and keep up to date with people I know. NO ONE bothers much to visit blogs any more. Should I keep this place open.. well I vowed to NEVER ever close it a long time ago. SO.. it stays here waiting for me to come back and DO SOMETHING. Any thing at all.
Life was pretty dull this winter.. I did not go out much due to the cold or the bronchitis I had.I spent some time watching APRIL the giraffe walk around her pen, as did millions of others. She didn’t have it until April 15th. It was a BOY yet to be named.. that made national news. At one time the counter at their YouTube channel said over one million watchers while it was happening. I also watched the great horned owl TIGER family nesting at the CLICK family home. Despite losing 4 eggs in a nest due to an ice storm the mom owl (Altera) laid another two eggs and they are doing well. AN orphan baby owl was also placed in the nest box and has been accepted as their own and thriving. Bad news and crisis in this nation, watching the owls was somewhat calming and pleasant. I highly recommend it. The link to their page is in red above.
Spring has really sprung here now though so I have been out and about on the bus and visiting.News of a new senior center opening next month has people talking. You have to be a MEMBER to go there and so that will hamper a lot of seniors on a fixed tight income. Wonder did they think of that? Well I guess I will wait and see if it is worth me joining as I have to pay to ride a bus to just get there every single visit. It does make a difference to some of us.Going through cabinets spring cleaning brought evidence of a visitor I would rather NOT have. I put out traps and see if it works. Peanut butter always does.. we will see. Getting ready for my niece to have her baby at any time now. We wait for the due date but could be early.. you never know with a second child. This will be a girl named LILY so we are all excited. Will post when that happens for sure.
WELL hope you all had a great Easter and will be enjoying some warmer weather this spring.
It’s February!.. How the winter seems to go faster when the weather is not so snowy. This year we have had it very mild. Yesterday I heard yelling and looked up the 4 children were playing in the courtyard with a dog running and having a great time. NO SNOW and nearly 50 degrees. Hard to believe it is still winter when you have those conditions.Made it easier on me since I have spent most of the whole month sick with bronchitis. How I got it, I have no idea, but the Urgent Care clinic said there is a virus that has been spreading and just about everyone is getting it. I went through bottles of Robotussin and boxes and boxes of kleenex and coughed so much the neighbors knocked on my door wondering if I was “Okay”. LOL guess I should tone down the coughing some. I lost so much sleep being up nights I decided to buy some earplugs so I could try resting in the daytime. WONDERFUL IDEA.. it worked. It really helped. Took me days to rest up but feel I am over the hump of being sickly. HOPE it NEVER comes back. (YES, I say that every time I have bronchitis.) Still disinfecting my home and washing everything in sight I can. I declare it clean..wonderful..now if I can only keep those nasty germs away from me!So what’s else is new? Oh I finally got my tiny tiny cell phone replaced as it was 6 years old and no longer would keep a charge. Do I hang on to things? Not exactly, but it took forever to go through the hoops to get it a new one. The rep on the phone said “MY this cell is so old..surprised it still works at all.” Oh yes I explained I had tried many times to get someone to listen to me… IT really does not work well any more. It doesn’t even have a camera on it. Really old model but did work for what I needed back then. Now I have to wait a week or so for a new one to get here. I have no idea what they are sending me.. it will sort of be like opening a PRESENT. I welcome it!!
Been a long time since not wearing my boots and heavy gear for the winter. I found my boots in the hall closet and noticed they were not even salt stained or anything this year, not yet anyway. I think maybe that groundhog made a mistake. I heard winter geese calling and have seen birds building nests. Weird weather we have all been having all over the country and world. Things are sure changing at a rapid pace.
Hope this update finds you all well, safe and happy.
I am not really sure what is happening. It seems that we had the nice cold winter and some snow and then WHAM it got up to 60 for a few days and all the snow melted. We kind of enjoyed it and then I got sick.. YEAH first time in THREE years I got a bad cold from all that crazy weather I think. My sinus said.. WOW it must be spring lets RUN! My eyes said… let’s itch and get sticky. My joints and lungs said YEAH.. let’s have fun. NOW it is snowing again and COLD out. Very confusing. Back in 2009 it kinda did the same thing. It was a short winter for us here.
Hope this holiday season finds you and yours safe and healthy this year. So many things have happened this year. It is hard to believe how our world is changing so. We can only hope for a better 2017!!
This is my little tree this year. I decided to try something coastal. I love the shells and used some clips to put more on the tree. I must say it looks totally different from any other tree I have ever had. I must put more lights on it as you can hardly see the ones that are on it. If I get it the way I want it finally I may just keep it up for the whole winter. This winter so far has been mild so I have not really been in the “mood” so much for the holidays. We are due for a storm soon so that will totally change I guess. Baking and making treats may also get me in the mood. I am going to try some new recipes and see how they turn out. This is the only time of the year when I just don’t deprive myself too much. Christmas only happens once a year so go for it I say!! No matter what my two favorites I still have to have are my favorite sugar cookies and Rachael Ray Fudge.
